The Clarion is the award-winning, independent, student run home for news, lifestyle, opinions and sports at Bethel University.
I was the Art Director for the 2020 fall semester. Our team began the academic year with a few goals for the publication:
1. Rebrand The Clarion publication. Prior to the 2020-21 academic year, The Clarion’s brand had become watered down and sometimes confused with Bethel University’s magazine. The Brand also didn’t have clear guidelines and shifted slightly between academic years. It was important to the staff that The Clarion was viewed by it’s audience as an independent publication.
2. Create and maintain an efficient design system that can be executed on hard deadlines by a team of designers and photographers, and across online and print platforms.
3. Revamp and drive traffic to the website. Previously, the website had been used more functionally as a place to archive articles published in print, rather than a tool to publish breaking stories and smaller articles in between print publications. Redesigned the website using wordpress to establish clear hierarchy, and fit the new branding.
